WHO ARE WE

Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA Turkey), is a youth organization and think tank that aims to inform young people about international security and foreign policy issues and organizes events for this purpose.
 YATA Turkey was founded on July 15, 2005, by the decision of the board of directors of the Turkish Atlantic Council Association, which has been operating since 1954 and acts under the supervision of the Turkish Atlantic Council Association.
YATA Turkey; It also constitutes the Turkish branch of the Young Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA International), which was constituted in 1996 under the auspices of the International Atlantic Treaty Association.

  • Building a strong network among the political leaders of the future,
  • To develop and strengthen cooperation between the youth of NATO member states, Partnership countries for NATO Peace, and NATO observer countries,
  • Attaching young leaders to TransAtlantic Security relationships while helping them shape the future of those relationships.
  • Contributing to the deepening of cooperation between key importance security organizations such as NATO, the European Union, the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the Council of Europe,
  • It was established to contribute to the work of Atlantic Treaty Association.

Along with all these, our organization allows us to establish new and concrete friendships; it also helps us to form bonds between different cultures.
Together, we believe that we can create a better world where respect, peace, and security prevail, not only specific to certain regions but also encompassing the whole world.

In addition, YATA has a wide range of events as organizations, meetings, internships, certificate programs, seminars, and workshops, with participants from NATO and neighboring countries. Mostly university students, academics, statesmen, cabinet members, military officials at all levels, and journalists, take part as participants in these events.

On June 18, 1954, the International Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) was constituted to explain the ideals of the Atlantic alliance in member countries.

The Turkish Atlantic Council Association was constituted in 1957 and was recognized by the Atlantic Treaty Association as the authorized association to represent Turkey in ATA.

AAYPL, which was founded in 1963 under the name of the Atlantic Association of Young Political Leaders and accepted as the predecessor of YATA, was established at Oxford University.

The Danish Atlantic Youth Seminar (DAYS), which was accepted as the first YATA meeting in 1985, convened and has been meeting regularly every year since then.

In 1996, the International Atlantic Treaty Association established YATA, the Young Atlantic Treaty Association, with the decision of the executive board members.

In 2003, the first international YATA Meeting was held and young people from member countries gathered in Brussels.

In 2006, the Turkish Atlantic Council established the Turkish Atlantic Youth Association, which will constitute the Turkish chapter of the YATA network.

In November 2006, YATA Turkey organized its first event. In cooperation with the Turkish Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, YATA Turkey organized the Youth for Peace International Event at Maslak War Academies.

According to the agreement reached between YATA International and NATO Parliamentary Assembly in 2015, the process of integrating national YATA Chapters into national NATO PA commissions in their country has begun. In the first stage, it was decided that YATA members would attend NATO PA commission meetings and YATA members would participate in international meetings within the national NATO PA delegation.
