Turkiye and NATO

• With an amount nearly $100 million, which makes 5% of NATO’s budget, Turkey’s among the top eight contributors of the Alliance.
• Turkey is also among the top five allies who gives sustainable support to the alliance mission through 1100 personnel.
• Around 570 Turkish personnel carry out duties under NATO’s mission in Afghanistan, which makes Turkey one of the ‘‘framework nations’’ of the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
• As for NATO operations in Iraq, Turkey’s the second top contributor after Canada within the Alliance.
• With 280 personnel deployed, Turkey takes part in NATO’s peacekeeping force KFOR in Kosovo.
• Turkey established in 2012 an early warning radar station against ballistic missile attacks in its eastern province Malatya, namely Kürecik Radar Station.
• Turkey established a Forward Operating Base in Konya for AWACS planes in 1983, which carried out its commitments during Gulf Crisis, Operation Crescent Guard, Operations Active Endeavour and the International Security Assistance Force Operation Afghan Assist as well as during peacetime. FOB Konya also took part in several comprehensive exercises.
• Turkey is also home to NATO’s patriot mission from 2013 onward, which reinforces Turkish air defence capabilities and secures NATO’s south eastern borders.
• Turkey supports the activities of Standing NATO Maritime Groups in the Black Sea, and provides permanent naval assistance to NATO missions in the Aegean Sea as well as Operation Sea Guardian in Mediterranean Sea.
• Turkey hosts LANDCOM, NATO’s Land Command in Izmir.
• One of the nine High Readiness Force Headquarters of ARRC (Allied Rapid Reaction
Corps) is in Istanbul, NRDC-T.
