About Us

Turkish Atlantic Council (The Atlantic Treaty Association of Turkey) officially began in 1957 as the Turkish branch of the Atlantic Treaty Association, which was founded in 1954 upon the recommendation of the NATO Public Diplomacy Department. Our non-profit, private, and independent association has accomplished meaningful works in a short period as Turkey’s geopolitical position has increased in the cold and hot war periods; It has become a prestigious institution in matters such as foreign policy and international security. Our association continues its studies on the importance of Translatlantic unity.

ATA Turkey carries out studies on understanding the importance of NATO in Turkey and emphasizing the importance of Atlanticist values ​​through summits, conferences, seminars, roundtables, workshops, and competitions. Our association aims to strengthen Turkey’s place in NATO and a better understanding of Turkey’s theses by NATO members and partner countries. The Turkish Atlantic Council mainly operates in Turkey but also exhibits its activities abroad, in cooperation with foreign partners, to achieve its goals and strengthen Turkey’s security, prosperity, and democratic development. Our association is funded and supported by NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

Politicians, decision-makers, NGOs, international organizations, government officials, media workers, think tank workers, students, young professionals, and researchers constitute the key target group of the Turkish Atlantic Council. It reaches the students and young professionals in the target group through its youth branch, the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association of Turkey (YATA TURKEY), and continues its activities.
